Review: Mid-tone Pink Lipsticks

I was recently on a drugstore hunt for a mid-toned pink lipstick. I found myself opening several tubes and comparing. At one point I had about five and kept going back and forth from one display to the next. The people at Walgreens probably thought I was trying to steal something, lol. Anyway, I couldn't make up my mind so I came home with these three. Here are my thoughts on each.

Top to Bottom: Maybelline, Rimmel, Wet n Wild

LtoR: Maybelline Color Sensational Pink Me Up, Rimmel Lasting Finish Pink Blush, Wet n Wild 901B

In the store, these looked really similar. After getting them home and swatching them in natural light, I can see that the Maybelline looks much darker. However, when applied, it's a true pink. It's not mauve looking at all like it sort of looks here. It applies smooth and lasts a very long time. I've had several of this brand and they are fast becoming my favorite drugstore lipstick. The color choices are amazing and they are so pigmented.

The Rimmel applied very nicely as well. This is my first Lasting Finish formula. It has a nice sweet smell as well which I enjoy. It has a slight sheen to it as you can see from the swatch photo. Where the Maybelline is a cream.  I do think it picks up a slight purple undertone on my skin.

The Wet n Wild goes on the lips streaky but with buildable color. It's very opaque in the swatch but has a really odd consistency. Almost thick and crayon like if that makes sense. I liked this one much more in the swatch than on my lips. It left that nice ring around my mouth and I had to blot about 4-5 times to get rid of it.

Overall thoughts: I prefer the finish and the color of the Maybelline hands down. I do really like the Rimmel, just the color is a tad off for me personally. I DO NOT recommend the Wet n Wild at all. It reminded me of the $.99 lipsticks I used to buy from them 25+ years ago. Yuck!

  1. Great review! That stinks that the Wet & Wild was a no. The Maybelline swatch was my favorite color. :-)

    1. Thanks Jayme! Yeah, I've seen the WnW on a few others but can't believe they can pull it off after the mess I saw with it. :)

    1. I go back and forth with the lip butters. The Maybelline and Rimmel have much better pigmentation so it just depends on what you're looking for. :)

  3. I love that Maybelline color! Crystal, how does the Color Sensational formula/consistency compare to Revlon Color Burst?

    1. I think it's similar. I love the Color Burst and sad to see they are slowly fazing them out. They are very creamy and pigmented. I find I enjoy the cream colors more than others. :)

    2. Oh no, they're fazing them out??? Finally, I find a drug store lipstick that I like and it's on its way out. I'll try the Maybelline in hopes that I'll like it just as well.
