I'll share with you this recipe I pinned and also how I tweaked it. I didn't find the original to work quite as well without a few added things.
2 - 16oz cans peaches in heavy syrup
1 - box yellow cake mix
1/2 cup better (cut into pieces)
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
Heat oven to 375*
Place peaches in a 9x13 pan (I used glass). Cover peaches with cake mix and press down. Cut butter into small pieces and place on top of the cake mix. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Bake for 45 minutes.
My Additions and Recommendations:
Add 1/2 cup of water - after putting everything in the pan. At the 45 minute mark I noticed there were still a lot of dry cake mix spots around the cake. There wasn't enough liquid to absorb it. I added the water, baked for an additional 5-7 minutes and it was perfect.
Use 3 cans of peaches - When I poured the peaches into the bottom of the pan I knew it didn't look like enough. Not only isn't it enough peaches with just two cans, it needs more liquid to absorb the cake mix like I said above.
Melt the butter - By just placing the pats or pieces of butter, you get a darker crust in that area. I also think melting it and pouring it over the mixture would have helped with the moisture problem and evenly distribute the butter.
Overall it was a big hit! It was pretty sweet using the cake mix but easy. I have to say that it got even sweeter the next day. Probably too sweet for my taste. However, I'd make this again for a bigger gathering because it was easy and a crowd pleaser.
